My Approach to Therapy
Being a therapist is a great honor and privilege for me. I want to help you process your deepest hurts and celebrate your biggest triumphs. I believe in a collaborative approach to therapy- you're in the driver's seat, while I'm riding shotgun. Have a song you want to play in session? Turn it on! Working on an embroidery project that helps you feel regulated? Bring it in! You know yourself better than I do.
Sometimes, talk therapy alone isn’t enough. I help my clients regulate their nervous systems and feel a sense of relief through trauma-informed body-based approaches. I use EMDR, somatic experiencing, and movement to help people reconnect with their bodies and heal from their heaviest burdens.
Issues I Commonly Work With:
Stress
Stress is the body’s natural response to a perceived threat or demand. This activates "The Stress Cycle," which involves a beginning (trigger), a middle (physiological response), and an end (release or recovery). When the cycle isn’t completed or stress becomes chronic and overwhelming, it can become trauma.
Trauma
Trauma is a psychological and emotional response to an event or series of events that are deeply distressing or disturbing. It can result from experiences such as abuse, accidents, loss, or any situation that overwhelms a person's ability to cope. Trauma often disrupts a person’s sense of safety, leading to lasting effects on their mental, emotional, and even physical well-being.
Queer Issues
Queer issues involve the experiences of individuals who are exploring or identify outside of traditional norms around gender identity and sexuality. This exploration can be a deeply personal journey that may include questioning, coming out, or transitioning, and it often occurs in the face of societal stigma or misunderstanding. These challenges can impact mental health, access to support, and a sense of safety, making inclusive, affirming environments crucial for well-being.
